Featured in this lot is this Chumash Tribal carved steatite tube pipe. The pipe features a wonderfully and professionally crafted steatite construction that features a expanded bowl that shows irregular construction with carved side walling of geometric patterns with a nipple like thinner neck to the tube pipe with a cylindrical opening on adorning the bottom portion of the pipe itself. The Chumash Indian homeland lies along the coast of California, between Malibu and Paso Robles, as well as on the Northern Channel Islands. Before the Mission Period, the Chumash lived in 150 independent towns and villages with a total population of at least 25,000 people. The condition of this tube pipe is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this tube pipe is 6" x 2 1/4" x 2". Provenance: The James M. Cole Collection, Visalia, CA.
