Offered in this lot is a collection of Civil war era artifacts and two arrowheads. These items came to us together as a collection. First is a December 2nd, 1862 One Dollar paper bill. This bill has all the indications of being authentic. Next are one lead ball and three lead “Minié Balls" (bullets). Their design was made to allow rapid muzzle loading of rifles. The Minié ball was quickly removed from the paper cartridge, with the gunpowder poured down the barrel and the bullet pressed past the muzzle rifling. It was then rammed down the barrel with the ramrod, which ensured that the charge was packed and the hollow base was filled with powder. It came to prominence in the Crimean War and the American Civil War, where it was found to inflict significantly more serious wounds than earlier round musket ball. The American Springfield Model 1861 and the British Pattern 1853 Enfield rifled muskets both used the Minié ball and were the most common used weapons during the Civil War. Next are the two "arrowheads". These points appear to be Kings Patterson Springs Corner Notch points. One point is 1" X 3/4" and the other is 2 ¾” X 1". Last in the collection are two small iron points. These points appear to be celts or punches. One point is 1" and the other is 3/4" and they are slightly magnetized. These points were in the same group as the other items, so it is presumed they were found at the same time and area as the other artifacts. Please see pictures for accurate condition of these items.
