For your consideration are two, Civil War era powder flasks with one made by The American Flask & Cap Company from the 1860s. Based in Waterbury, Connecticut, the American Flask and Cap Company was a 19th-century manufacturer that operated from about 1857 to 1865. For use by hunters and the military, they produced powder flasks made of copper, brass, and leather that were frequently labeled "AM FLASK & CAP CO". The first in this lot is marked "A.M. Flask & Cap Co." on the top, next to the powder nozzle and shows a copper construction. It shows a simple, yet elegant design with four connecting loops used to strap it to gear or a waist belt. The top nozzle can be unscrewed and removed and the push tab to open the nozzle is loose but in working order. The second flask is unmarked and smaller than the first showing a zinc / brass construction and a floral / shell design on the front and black. The copper nozzle features a tight push tab to open the nozzle and keep it closed. A connecting loop can be seen near the top on the side while the other has been broken off. They show good condition overall with some wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. The first and larger one measures 8 3/8" L x 3 3/4" W x 1 1/2" D, while the second and smaller one measures 5 7/8" L x 3 1/4" W x 1 1/4" D. They have a collective weight of 11 ounces.
