Featured in this lot is this original, Claude Lorraine Ferneley (1822-1891) painting of a horse in a stable from the 1880s. Claude Lorraine Ferneley was a British painter born in 1822, active during the 19th century. His life and artistic output coincide with a dynamic era in British art, a time when numerous artists were exploring landscapes, portraits, and scenes from daily life. This painting shows a horse in a stable standing against a yellow background. A wash basin, bucket and broom sit near the right side of the painting while the horse takes the center of the scene. He is mounted with an English saddle and has a cut tail. It is set in a faux tortoise shell frame and has a plaque on the front reading, "Claude Lorraine Ferneley".
