For your consideration is a Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with 4” octagon barrel. The serial number indicates that this has a post-Civil War manufacture date of 1871. This revolver is a fine, original example of a .31 caliber, 5-shot cylinder that found favor with Civil War officers and enlisted men as personal weapons. Many of these also saw service in the gold fields of California. This revolver is also one of Colt’s most popular designs that was large enough for aimed fire, but small enough to conceal in a waste band or unobtrusive holster. They also found favor with gamblers and “ladies of the evening.” The barrel is correctly marked “ADDRESS SAM’L COLT NEW-YORK CITY”, along with “COLT’S PATENT” on the left side of the frame. The revolver has a nice, overall aged patina metal with a particularly fine roll engraved cylinder scene depicting a stagecoach holdup. The revolver also has excellent walnut grips that fit beautifully and still retain the fine, original varnish finish. This example also shows a mellow, uncleaned brass back strap and trigger guard. This revolver, with a very attractive appearance, has all sharp markings and is fully functional with fine screws and original loading lever. One of the most popular and successful of the Colt percussion revolvers, this is a key model for any Colt, Civil War, or Old West collection. This revolver comes with a leather holster. Serial Number: 32993. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
