This is a truly historic and rare caliber Colt Bisley Single Action Army Revolver chambered in .32 S&W caliber with Colt Historical Factory Letter, 1 of only 18 ever produced in this caliber. Colt made over 45,000 Bisley Single Action revolvers from 1894-1912; of those only 18 standard frame Bisley revolvers were produced in .32 Smith & Wesson caliber, making this one of the least produced and rarest of all Colt Models and variations. The included original 2003 dated Colt Historical letter lists this Colt Bisley with serial number 192226 as being .32 S&W caliber, 5 ½” barrel, blue finish, type of stocks: not listed, and shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York, NY on January 4, 1900 as a shipment of one (1) same type gun in shipment. Considering that this revolver is almost 127 years old and only 18 were made in this rare caliber, there can only be a small number from the original 18 that have survived to the present time. The Bisley was introduced as a target grade option to the famed Single Action Army revolver introduced in 1873. It was popular in England at the “Bisley” shooting range where it got its name. In the U.S. it was particularly popular on the Southwestern Frontier and Bisleys can often be seen in the holsters of early 20th century cowboys in that region. The standard calibers for the Bisley Model were the same as those offered in the Single Action Army- .45 Colt, .44-40, .38-40, .32-20, and .41 Colt Any other chambering is considered scarce with some like this .32 S&W chambered Bisley almost unheard of. This example shows good aged blue on the cylinder and barrel. The screw heads are all excellent. It is fitted with two-piece wood grips that fit excellently with the left grip panel only having a repaired crack that is not overly apparent. The frame and grip straps have aged naturally to a dark uncleaned patina with all markings distinct including the frame patent dates with rampant colt logo and the correct one-line barrel address on the barrel top with “(BISLEY MODEL) FOR .32 S&W CTG.” on the left side of the barrel. It displays all matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and grip strap. Mechanics are excellent with the hammer having the correct four clicks and a very tight lock-up to the cylinder. The bore shows fine rifling all the way through, and the front sight has not been filed or altered. In all, a Bisley with a most attractive appearance and one of the most rare caliber variations extant. This is a chance to own a famed Colt Single Action Bisley Model in a caliber so rare the finest and most complete Colt collections in private hands or in museums won’t have. The pistol weighs 2lbs 10oz. Serial Number: 192226. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
