Navy Arms Co. .58 caliber half-stock Hawken style percussion muzzle loading rifle. The main marking on this high quality rifle is on the barrel which is stamped “NAVY ARMS Co., RIDGEFIELD, N.J. U.S.A.” It is also stamped “1974” which is probably the year of manufacture. This is a truly big-bore hunting rifle that will take either a patched round ball or a hollow base Minie bullet- the same type used in the Civil War. It features a finely blued stout 26” octagon barrel fitted with an adjustable buckhorn rear sight with a long blade/bead front sight. The walnut stock is in excellent condition showing almost no handling. The bore on this rifle is bright and excellent all the way through. The lock plate and hammer are color case hardened with the lock plate showing the Navy Arms Co. marking. It is attractively fitted with all brass butt plate, fancy trigger guard, barrel wedge escutcheon plates, and forend cap. It comes with a brass under rib with two brass thimbles for the included ramrod. There is some very old decorative and primitive leather affixed to the rear loop in the trigger guard. The action is tight and the half-cock notch holds on the hammer. In all, a most attractive out of production heavy .58 caliber hunting rifle in a great condition. This rifle weighs 9lbs 4oz.
