The lot features two circa 1940-1950's prints, a Colt Firearms Advertising piece by Earle Schoonover and a buckskin by Frederic Remington. Frederic Sackrider Remington (American 1861-1909) is considered one of the most renowned painter, illustrator and sculptor of the American Old West who spent his life retelling the scenes of the American west with images of cowboys, American Indians, and the U.S. Cavalry, amongst other Western culture. Illustrations and prints became an important part of Remington's fame and popularity with the American public. Throughout the 1890s, Remington was well known in American households as an illustrator of the Old West and military subjects. Frank Earle Schoonover (August 19, 1877 – September 1, 1972) was an American illustrator who worked in Wilmington, Delaware. A member of the Brandywine School, he was a contributing illustrator to magazines and did more than 5,000 paintings. The first print is from Frederic Remington, originally done in 1901 and printed in 1956 by Penn Prints in New York. The work is titled, "A Cheyenne Buck" and shows a man sitting on his horse as he looks towards the viewers right hand side. The horse shows a light brown color with white spots, while the man wears a feather in his hair and a knife in his waistband. It shows Remington's signature underneath the horse reading, "Frederick Remington 1901". The bottom of the print is marked reading, "Frederick Remington (American, 1861-1909): Courtesy The Remington Art Memorial / ©1956, Penn Prints, New York". It sits in a light brown colored frame. The second print was originally done by Frank E. Shoonover in 1925, and was printed in the 1950s by Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company. It shows a cowboy on his horse looking back over his shoulder to the left of the viewer. He is wearing a white cowboy hat, a vest, a Sheriff's star badge and sports a revolver on his waist. Frank's signature can be seen in the bottom right hand corner reading, "Frank E. Shoonover". The bottom middle of the print is marked reading, "Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co. / Hartford, Connecticut". The pieces show good condition overall with little wear present and no signs of damage noted. The Frederick Remington visible print measures 15 3/4" L x 11 3/4" W, while the entire piece measures 17 1/4" L x 13 1/4" W x 1 1/2" D. The Frank E. Shoonover visible print measures 21 1/2" L x 11 5/8" W, while the entire piece measures 23 3/8" L x 13 3/8" W x 1 1/8" D. They have a collective weight of 6 pounds and 2 ounces.
