For your consideration is an early Post-War Colt Official Police, .38 Special caliber revolver with desirable 6” barrel. This example is typical of those found in the holsters of most law enforcement officers of the 1940s-1950s. The Colt Official Police was a beautifully fit and finished handgun that typified this period of Colt production. The actions and triggers were finely hand-tuned by only the best craftsmen, many of whom had been employed by Colt for decades. The precision fitting of this Colt with serial number 776637 and manufacture date of 1950 is typical of this Golden Age of Colt revolver production. Made of blued solid steel with checkered walnut Colt medallion grips, the Official Police model was a rugged firearm and built to last through years of hard service. This example shows nearly all the deep blue finish with typical Colt markings including the “rampant colt” stamping on the left side of the frame and the “OFFICIAL POLICE .38 SPECIAL” marking on the left side of the barrel. The action of this Colt is as tight and functioning as the day it left the factory 70 years ago. Likewise, the bore is bright and excellent. The action and superb hand-fitted and tuned trigger pull is an example of gunsmithing that can now only be found on custom worked revolvers. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
