Featured in this lot is a Colt Root model 1855 revolving percussion cap rifle chambered in .56 Cal. The Model 1855 was one of the most widely used revolving rifles and was available in three calibers .36, 344, .56 and four standard barrel lengths. This rifle displays a 31" long barrel, which is an extra-long barrel, five shot cylinder, walnut stock and fore grip, and integrated loading plunger. The .56 cal displays a five-shot cylinder rather than the six-shot cylinder that came with the .36 and .44 caliber models. The barrel, frame, and cylinder show some heavy pitting across the exterior and some spots of warm patina. The hammer shows working action, with the cylinder rotation working intermittently. This firearm qualifies as an antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
