The lot features a late 19th Century dance rattle club from the Comanche Native American Indians. The club features a stripped carved willow solid wood haft handle that has been covered in intricately braided horse hair having an artful stripe of white horse hair worked in. The club has a set of old steer horns as the "war club" pointed head that are hollow. When shaken the club rattles, as several unknown object reside inside the horns. The horns are secured to the haft with a red ocher mineral dyed strap of parfleche rawhide and accented by a braided strand of horse hair and plume of stripped horsehair at the base which is held into place with a wrapping of red ocher dyed parfleche. The club shows a drop wrist throng of braided horse hair, a fine addition. The piece shows overall good condition for its early age. Measures overall 17.5"L with an additional 3.5"L drop and 8"W head that is 2"D.
