This is a fine late-20th century Colleen Stops of the Crow Apsaalooke from Crow Indian Reservation in Montana beaded flat bag from the Custer Battlefield Trading Post Putt and Jill Thompson T., purchased by an from the estate collection of Nancy and Carroll O'Connor (Archie Bunker), Brentwood, CA; ex-John Moran (in lucite display frame with original Coleen Stops tag and John Moran paper). The bag exhibits traditional Native Indian tanned hide with trade clothing lining and is completely covered on the front with classic and award winning Crow Geometric glass trade seed bead beadwork. The beadwork shows classic bright and pastel colors in Crow bold patterns, thread sewn with a rope beaded Indian hide top strand and the entire edge all the way around beaded over reaching to the backside of the bag. The bag has a Montana Deer antler tine button and Indian hide strap. This is displayed in a lucite clear plastic display with leather hide background and can be removed if so desired. Colleen Stops is a renowned Crow Apsaalooke Montana artist from the Crow Indian Reservation Agency located next to the Little Bighorn Custer Battlefield. For an example of Collee Stops Crow beadwork see the cradle board at the Custer Battlefield Trading Post listed for $5,500, noted as “one of our finest beaders on the Crow Reservation”. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Putt Thompson and Jill Thompson at Custer Battlefield Trading Post done by Colleen Stops a Montana Crow sold to Nancy and Carroll O’Connor in the 1980-1990’s for $525; From the estate of John Carroll O’Connor (1924-2001) and Nancy Fields O’Connor (1929-2014). O’Connor was an American actor whose fame was widespread and included roles of Archie Bunker (for which he won four Emmy Awards) the main character in the CBS television sitcom All in the Family (1971-1979) and continuation, Archie Bunker’s Place (1979-1983). The piece was sold by John Moran in 2016 for the estate and was marked as such. A paper receipt is included in the back of the frame and the original tag from Putt is included. The bag is in very good well kept condition. The frame measures overall 23 3/8-inches tall by 14.25-inches wide by 2.75-inches deep. The bag itself with strap is 20.5-inches tall by 10.25-inches wide.
