This is a set of beaded muslin, trade clothe and hide cuffs from the Montana Crow referred to as “Married Woman Leggings (or cuffs)” dating to circa 1940-1960’s from the Bruce VanLandingham Sundog collection. The set is comprised of tanned hide, trade muslin and calico trade clothe with the entire outside being covered in glass trade pony beads in a banded geometric pattern. The beadwork is in white, light and dark semi-transparent purple and a semi-transparent teal. Inside has a nice floral calico trade clothe lining. Hide is tanned. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. The cuffs, arm bands, or leggings were in the catalog list under the same inventory as the moccasins but are being offered separate. Each measures when closed and flat 6”W without the ties (which are approximately 7”L) by 7.5”L. Museum collection number: E1064.
