The lot features a beautiful polychrome painted Crow Medicine Shield from purchased from Christies Auction in New York during the 1970’s by Ted Levy of Santa Rosa, California. The original Christies sale tag is still attached to the back. The shield exhibits Indian brain tanned hide, which had been wetted and stretched over a bent twig frame. There are old-tarnished nails along the back of the framing and the original hide shoulder strap still being attached. The piece shows old yellow, blue, and red paints with an old cluster of pheasant feathers attached at the center. The paint has fading and is in a classic Northern Plains pattern. Truly a rarity with nice collection information from one of the most noted and oldest auction houses, Christie's. Shield measures about 18 inches in circumference.
