For your consideration is this well known poster of Custer's Last Fight--Anheuser Busch Brewing Association. The original, painted by Cassilly Adams in 1885, was acquired by Anheuser Busch Brewing Association in 1896 as the result of a St. Louis Saloon's bankruptcy proceedings. At the time the painting was valued at $10,000. It is said that the artist used Native Sioux in battle dress and cavalrymen in period uniforms as models; it took him one year to complete, measuring 9.5 feet x 16.5 feet. Anheuser Busch produced a lithographic print of the painting and began distributing prints to their distributors, bars, and other outlets. The original was donated by the brewery to the 7th Cavalry, as stated on the advertising print. It was destroyed by a fire in Fort Bliss, Texas in 1946. The print being auctioned today is in a beautiful gilded wood frame and is in excellent condition. It measures 43.5" x 36".
