Featured in this lot is a Daniel Hartkopf & Co. German hunting hanger, circa 1870 to 1910. The hunting hanger features a wonderfully and professionally crafted steel with brass hilt and sheath. The decorated piece has a leather sheath and a vertical striation decorated wooden handle. The hilt shows a double stag head with floral decorations and the sheath shows a wolf's head. The "DH" inside a shield mark is associated with the sword maker Daniel Hartkopf & Co., a German manufacturer based in Solingen. Solingen is a renowned center for the production of knives, swords, and other edged weapons, often referred to as the "City of Blades." A hunting hanger is a type of short sword or large knife that was commonly used in the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly by hunters and outdoors men.
