Featured in this lot is this original ink and pen mural study of the Reno Battlefield at the Little Bighorn Custer Battlefield drawing by CAA Artist Dave Powell, son of Ace Powell. The drawing features a wonderfully and professionally crafted ink and pen construction that shows two men mounted engaging the Native warriors with two men down below them un mounted and a thicket of trees around them. The study is based on the statement "Isah Dorman and Charlie Reynolds fell in the valley not far from the grove." The drawing is marked at the bottom with the previous quote and is signed in the bottom right hand corner with his hallmark underneath and identifying this as a study. Dave Powell (born 1954) is a contemporary Western artist rooted deeply in Montana, with four generations of family heritage tied to the region’s rugged landscape and cowboy culture. The son of artists Ace Powell and Nancy McLaughlin Powell, Dave inherited a rich artistic lineage. Primarily self-taught, Dave began serious art training in his mid-teens. He benefited from mentorship and collaboration with celebrated Western artists, including Bob Scriver, Ned Jacob, Robert Lougheed, and Joe Beeler, the founder of the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA). The condition of this ink and pen drawing is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this drawing is 7 3/8" x 12 1/8".
