The lot features fifteen original chromolithographs from the Detroit Publishing Company circa 1900. Printed by the Detroit Photographic Company, now known as the Detroit Publishing Company, the company was started by publisher William A. Livingstone and photographer Edwin H. Husher in the late 19th century as the Detroit Photographic Company, it later became The Detroit Photochrom Company. Each shows the circa 1800’s antique Persian or Oriental rugs on a white background. The detail of these rare collectible rugs is astounding. Each is not marked but was confirmed as being from the Detroit Publishing Co. Chromolithography is an early method of making multi-color prints using stone or metal plates, similar to that of a wood block print or serigraph, a much higher detail and more original method of printing completely unlike the modern or vintage lithographs which are much more mass produced. Each original chromolithograph measures 11 3/8” by 8.5”, total of 15 pieces.
