This is a terrific late 19th Century double batwing pipe tomahawk attributed to the Plains Native American Indians. The piece features a hand-forged iron head which has two “batwing” cut outs in the center of the blade and has punch-dot decoration and five bleeder holes. The haft handle shows a solid wood adorned with old brass tacks and a dangle drop tied on comprised of old buckskin hand cut Indian tanned hide fringe with an old trade thimble. The tomahawk has some minor scratches, nicks and dings from honest age and use and is in well preserved good condition with a nice mellow patina. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Westford of Connecticut. Overall the piece measures 23.75” in length with a head that is 9 inches long by 4.75 inches wide across the bottom of the blade.
