Featured in this lot is the 1891 edition of "DOWN The GREAT RIVER" by Captain Willard Glazier, Hubbard Brothers, Publishers, Philadelphia "DOWN The GREAT RIVER; Embracing an account of the discovery of the True Source of the Mississippi, together with views, descriptive and pictorial, of the cities, towns, villages, and scenery on the banks of the river, as seen during a canoe voyage of over three thousand miles from its head waters to the Gulf of Mexico". The book has thirty (35) black and white illustrations and maps. Captain Willard Glazier (1841-1905) was a soldier, author, explorer who traveled the length of the Mississippi River the year of 1881, looking for the source of the Mississippi. The book cover displays a dark brown cloth bound hardcover with a gilt gold lettering and stamped illustrations and black gilt river map design. Full page map titled, "The Father of the Waters", attached at page 438. The condition of this book is good overall, scuffing noted to cover edges, moisture staining, age tanning and foxing exhibited to intact pages. No other obvious marring noted, measurements are 5"W x 7.5"L x 1.5"D
