Featured in this lot is this early & original cabinet card photo of a hunting man posing with his punt gun, from the late 1890s to early 1900s. This cabinet card photo comes from a studio photographer and is marked on the back, but the name has been worn and illegible. The photo shows an older man in a cowboy hat sitting on a tree stump as he holds his punt gun in between in his legs. A punt gun was a much larger than typical shotgun used in the late 19th century century designed to harvest dozens of waterfowl in one shot, commonly used in commercial market hunting. They could range from 5 feet, similar to the one in the photo, all the way up to 10 feet and weighing over 100 pounds. They were outlawed in the early 20th century to prevent population collapse. The photo shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 6" L x 3 5/8" W and weighs under 6 ounces.
