Featured in this lot are two hand carved wood, Navajo "Morning Singer" Kachinas from the mid 20th century. The Navajo Morning Singer (Talavai) wood kachina represents dawn, singing to wake the village and passing out bean sprouts during the Bean Dance. The first and smaller one in this lot appears to be slightly earlier than the larger one, possibly from the 1950s. It shows a light pink colored upper body and a white bottom skirt with geometric designs. The top, around the neck, features green yarn. This one is not set on a wood base. The second one is set on a wood base and is shown wearing a faux leather cape with colors of black, red and white. It shows a blue face with red accented nose and ears, a red upper body and a white lower skirt with geometric designs. It is set on a wood base and is not signed. Both show good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted. The one not on a base measures 3 5/8" L x 4" W x 8 1/2" H, while the one on a base measures 3" L x 4 3/4" W x 9 5/8" H. They have a collective weight of 9 ounces.
