For your consideration is this beautiful, three piece E.C. Powell Bamboo fly rod made circa 1930-40s. Born in 1878, EC Powell produced fly rods in a small shop behind his Marysville, California home. He was primarily renowned for his work on "western" type rods that were longer in length and capable of handle large amounts of water, made feasible by his early use of hollow-building. Powell's articulation of tapers, known as the A/B/C classification, also helped many anglers understand bamboo rod design. He made hundreds of rods before his death in 1966. This is a three piece fly rod featuring an extra tip piece. It is constructed of bamboo and shows gold bands and silver ferrules. The bottom shows a cork handle and a metal end cap that is marked reading, "E.C. Powell / Maker / Marysville, CA". The fly rod comes in its original metal tube and cloth carrier and features an extra top piece for the fly rod resulting in four pieces total. When put together, the fly rod measures 8 feet and 6 3/4 inches and weighs approximately 4 ounces. The rod shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years but no signs of obvious damage is noted. The metal carrying tube measures 36 1/2" L x 1 5/8" W. The carrying tube and fly rod have a collective weight of 1 pound and 2 ounces.
