The lot features an original and very scarce E. Remington & Sons Smoot New Model No. 2 Revolver. Approximately only 3,000 of these were ever manufactured from circa 1877-1885, with references that indicate only 1,400 were manufactured in this caliber; this is a very early example. The revolver is chambered in a .32 Rimfire Short caliber and shows a 2 ¾ inch octagon barrel with spur trigger, non-stepped ejector rod, and original hard rubber grips with checkering. The firearm pre-dates the purchase of the Remington Family Owned, E. Remington & Sons Company to Marcellus Harley of Hartley and Graham of New York City, a major sporting goods chain who also owned the Union Metallic Cartridge Company and the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The revolver shows the original factory Nickel Plated finish being in a very good overall appearance with spots of peppery oxidation; overall, it is a very fine example for its age. The top of the barrel is marked “E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILLION, N.Y. PATENTED W.S. SMOOT OCT. 21, 1873.” This is a single shot revolver with a 5 shot rotating cylinder and fixed sights. Serial Number: 328. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
