Featured in this lot we have a triangular French saber with ornate brass fittings originating from the early 19th century. The saber shows a triangular steel blade, horn grip, and ornate brass fittings and guard. The brass guard shows the image of a Eagle perched on a branch and bordered by other floral ornamentation. The pommel is decorated with the likeness of two loins heads and the image of a woman's face on either side. The brass fittings are decorated with floral and geometric patterns. The blade is a standard triangular blade made of tempered steel. Triangular blades where popular due to that puncture wounds where almost impossible to fully fix with the medical technology of the time. The blade is marked on the bottom of the ricasso where the blade meets the guard. The piece is in good condition overall with the blade showing a warm patina and some movement in the guard. The saber measures 35 1/2" long overall with a 30" blade.
