The is an amazing, highly carved walrus tusk cribbage board from the Inuit or Eskimo Native Americans dating to the late 19th Century to early 20th Century. The piece is carved from a Walrus Tusk showing a highly figured dimensional carving, uncommonly seen on other examples, showing the walrus shape with a cut in tusk and flipper along with lower body in dimension as well as the dimensional fish, walrus flipper end at the top or tip, as well as the body shape of the seal on the other side and end showing the animal figure, likely a seal or walrus grasping the end of the tusk. The tusk is carved and etched or engraved with scrimshaw work as well as the drilled spots for the cribbage board. This is one of the best cribbage boards we have offered for sale and is truly a fantastic example. This carving is most similar to two highly carved examples; the carved tusk sold by Case Antiques in 2014 for $3,198; the second DAVIDEE ITULU (1929-2006) KIMMIRUT (LAKE HARBOUR) board sold by First Arts Premier in 2022 for $2,324.70 US (both shown w/ bp). Measures overall 13.25"L end to end and 2" by 1.5" at the end.*
