Featured in this lot is this early US August Buermann spurs. The spurs are marked "U.S. A.B." and were made by August Buermann. August Buermann was born in Sattenhausen, Germany on August 4, 1842. He apprenticed as a locksmith in Germany and arrived in New York in August of 1864. A few weeks later, he went into the Army as a substitute for someone who came into the locksmithing company where he was working, looking for a volunteer. August Buermann Mfg. Co. began making spurs for both the civilian and military markets. The spurs feature leather spur straps, with a heel strap included. The condition of these spurs is good, with no obvious signs of damage and a slight patina to the spurs consistent with age. The measurements of these spurs are 5 1/4" x 4 1/4" x 3/4".
