For your consideration is this original letterpress tray from the Epitaph Publishing Company in Tombstone, Arizona Territory, 1880s-1890s. The Tombstone Epitaph newspaper was founded by John Clum in 1880 and is the oldest continually published newspaper in Arizona. Its first issue was published on May 1, 1880. The Epitaph was known for its coverage of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and continued to report on the lives of figures like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. The newspaper has been through various ownership changes and relocations throughout its history, including a move to its current location on 5th Street in 1927 and a purchase by Tombstone Historic Adventures in the 1960s. This letterpress tray is marked on the back in black paint reading, "Epitaph Pub. Co. / Tombstone, A.T.". The opposite side shows various sizes of trays for putting letterpress blocks into. These letterpress blocks would have ranged in size and were used in the printing of the Tombstone Epitaph. This tray shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 16 1/2" L x 32" W x 1 1/2" D and weighs 6 pounds.
