This is an exceptional and rare steer horn three-legged chair with cowhide upholstery from a large Montana Dude Ranch estate. The piece has fantastic age and was collected in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the 1990’s. This chair is truly a fine work of craftsman artwork showing heavy high quality hand-crafted construction with extraordinary cowhide upholstery. The chair features three-legs with a total of nine polished steer horns supporting the triangular wood construction seat with cowhide upholstery and cowhide wrapped trimmed tops leading into the backrest which features six larger polished steer horns with cowhide wrapped backrest / headrest. The horns all have a rich coloring and overall the chair displays wonderfully. Chairs or benches such as this date back to the 1800’s and were widely associated with Frontiersman, Trappers, the Old West, and Wild West Shows such as Buffalo Bill and the 101 Ranch. One of the most notable notable of makers was Wenzel Friedrich (1827-1902) with this piece emulating his fine craftsmanship and style. The chair is in very good condition with no obvious signs of damage. The piece likely was purchased for over $10,000-$15,000 in the 1990’s for the Montana Dude Ranch. The measurements of this chair are 39" x 22" x 19". This is an outstanding example of handcrafted furniture.
