The lot features a collection of nine original Frank Jay Haynes Yellowstone National Park 19th-Century photographs, both silver albumen boudoir cards and stereoviews. The collection includes 3619 Chinaman Geyser, 3591 The Giant Geyser Cone, 3659 Great Falls from Red Rock, untitled Yellowstone Geyser, 4608 Great Falls 360 Feet, 1906 Pillars of Hercules Ore., 4503 Liberty Cap Hotel and Valley, 4529 Riverside Geyser, and 1065 Sulphur Mountain and Valley. Every photograph is marked on the back and / or front with F. Jay Haynes including marks for Official Photographer N.P.R.R., Northern Pacific Yellowstone Park, Boudoir Views, F. Jay Haynes Fargo Dakota Territory (D.T.). These are all original photographs from the 1800’s and are well kept. Frank Jay Haynes, F. Jay Haynes, F.J. Haynes, F. J. Haynes. All four Boudoir Cards measure 8.5-inches by 5.25-inches, one stereoview measures 7-inches by 4-inches and the other four stereoviews measure 7-inches by 3.5-inches.
Provenance: From the personal collection of Francoise Perriot (Françoise Perriot), noted historian author of the West and Native Americans. Perriot’s published works include such books as “Les Indiens et La Nature” (Indians and Nature) 2017, “La Conquête du Far West” (The Conquest of the Wild West) 2007, “Les Indiens d'Amérique du Nord” (North American Indians), “Guide Bleu : Etats-Unis Ouest Americain” (Blue Guide: United States West America). This piece and others come from her time collecting in Montana and the West, her book “Les Indiens et la nature” is one of the most notable in France documenting photographs of the west.
