Featured in this lot we have a high condition Colt Model 1877 Thunderer double action revolver chambered in .41 caliber. This revolver was manufactured by Colt in 1898 with a blue finish 4 ½-inch round barrel, hard rubber grips, six-shot cylinder, ejector rod, case hardened frame and double action trigger. The Colt M1877 or Model 1877 was made by Colt’s Patent Fire Arms starting in January 1877 for use by Cowboys and Lawmen and saw use in the American Indian Wars, North-West Rebellion and Spanish-American War. Designed by William Mason the guns were offered in three calibers with unofficial names of the “Thunderer”, the “Lightning”, and the “Rainmaker”. The Thunderer being the largest caliber in the Model 1877 chambered in .41 Long Colt. The Thunderer was the preferred weapon of Billy the Kid (William H. Bonney / Henry McCarty) the very gun carried by Billy when he was killed by Pat Garrett in 1881; also the known gun owned Doc Holliday. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." with the left side reading "COLT. D.A. 41". The left side of the frame is marked with patent dates and the Colt logo. Mechanically the revolver shows wonderful timing and crisp trigger. The revolver shows good condition overall with light wear due to age and handling. The pistol shows a blue'd finish across the barrel, cylinder, trigger, and trigger guard with the frame showing a case hardened finish. Serial Number: 107876, manufactured in 1898. It weighs 1lbs 8oz. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
