For your consideration are two Civil War prints of the Vicksburg attack and siege from the 20th century. The first print in this lot is titled, "First At Vicksburg - The U.S. Army in Action" by H. Charles McBarron, Junior. This print shows the 1st Battalion, 13th Infantry attacking up the steep slope to Vicksburg. After losing almost 43 percent of its men, they still pushed forward into the fight against the Confederate soldiers. After about two months of fighting, the Union finally split the Confederate soldiers and took Vicksburg. Below the print is the title of the piece and a write up on the history of the battle. It is set in a black frame. The second print is titled, "Siege of Vicksburg - The Assault on Fort Hill", originally painted by Thure de Thulstrap (1848-1930), reproduced as a Aquarelle Facsimile print by Luis Prang & Company in Boston in the late 1880s. The piece depicts Union soldiers being led by Ulysses S. Grant assaulting Fort Hill during the siege of Vicksburg from May through July, 1863 during the American Civil War. The piece shows the artist signature in the bottom left hand corner reading, "Thulstrup. The backing board behind the print reads from left to right, "Aquarelle Facsimile Print / Copyright 1888 Siege of Vicksburg - The Assault on Forest Hill / L. Prang & Company Boston". The pieces in this lot show good condition overall with some wear present from their age and use through the years, but no signs of major damage is noted, especially to the artwork itself. Artwork on both pieces appear to be in good condition. The first print's visible art measures 17 1/2" L x 23 5/8" W, while the entire piece measures 20 5/8" L x 26 5/8" W x 3/4" D. The second print's visible art measures 14 5/8" L x 21" W, while the entire piece measures 19 3/4" L x 26 1/4" W. The two pieces have a collective weight of 2 pounds and 10 ounces.
