This is an excellent set of fully beaded hightop moccasins from the Assiniboine of Fort Peck in Northern Montana. The set is from the mid-to-late-1900's and was collected from a pawn shop in Fort Peck, Montana outside of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Reservation. The men's set shows an exceptional fully beaded set of leggings and fully top beaded moccasins all on Indian Brain tanned hide with glass trade seed bead beadwork in a geometric pattern. The set shows thick leather sole hard bottoms with thread sewing and are covered in intricate, finely detailed beadwork showing a stepped diamond pattern with Maltese crosses at the center matched to the massive stepped diamond pattern with Maltese cross on each side of the leggings all of which show a chalk white background with accent symbols and borders in semi-transparent dark green, corn yellow, medium green, and dark red / maroon. The leggings are lined with old five-point star patriotic dark blue and white trade clothe and have Indian tanned hide ties on the back. The leggings have been displayed on top of the moccasins as hightop moccasins / high top moccasins. Fort Peck was associated with Col. Campbell K. Peck, the partner of Elias H. Durfee from a trading firm of Durfee and Peck and in 1867 Abe Farwell constructed Fort Peck Trading Post along the Missouri River which created a monopoly in trade with the Sioux and Assiniboine tribes. Fort Peck served as the Indian Agency from 1873-1878, later being moved to Popular, Montana. Overall in well kept condition. When together the set measures 15.5-inches high by 6-inches wide by 11.25-inches long along the sole.
