The lot features a set of fully beaded men’s cuffs with inset signal mirrors on both sides from the Assiniboine of Fort Peck in Northern Montana. The set is from the mid-to-late-1900's and was collected from a pawn shop in Fort Peck, Montana outside of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Reservation. The men’s set exhibits thick trade canvas, Indian Brain tanned hide and old calico trade clothe covered on the entire outside with geometric glass trade bead beadwork and inlaid on both sides with a total of two diamond shaped signal mirrors with a beaded border. The outside shows Indian tanned hide tie fringes and the inside a floral calico old trade clothe lining. The set shows a stepped diamond motif at the center with Maltese cross designs showing a chalk white background and accents in corn yellow, medium green, semi-transparent dark green and dark red maroon. These match the fully beaded high top moccasins and belt in the lots on either side of this set. Fort Peck was associated with Col. Campbell K. Peck, the partner of Elias H. Durfee from a trading firm of Durfee and Peck and in 1867 Abe Farwell constructed Fort Peck Trading Post along the Missouri River which created a monopoly in trade with the Sioux and Assiniboine tribes. Fort Peck served as the Indian Agency from 1873-1878, later being moved to Popular, Montana. Overall in well kept condition. Each cuff measures 6.5-inches by 5-inches with an additional 8-inches long fringe, all when laid flat.
