French Cherub Marble Mantle Clock After A. Moreau

Featured in this lot is this early 1900s, French cherub marble mantle clock after A. Moreau (1843-1906/1917). Adrien Moreau was born in Troyes, France on April 18, 1843 into a family with a long heritage of painters, sculptors and designers. This mantle clock features a full, carved marble construction with bronze, Cherub sculpture marked "Moreau". The clock is offset from the center as the bronze sits on the base as well. The clock face is marked with hour numbers on the interior and minute numbers in increments of 5 on the exterior. The clock movement and bell can be seen from the back through a hinge door but is unmarked. The clock is in working condition and comes with two winding keys. The bell dings on the hour, thirty minute mark and forty-five minute mark. It shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 5 5/8" L x 12 1/2" W x 17 1/8" and weighs 21 pounds and 12 ounces.
