Available in this lot is a French M1874 sword bayonet with metal scabbard originating from 1879. The piece shows a steel blade with a metal guard, wooden grip, and brass attachment point. The bayonet is designed to function with the 8 mm M1888 Commission rifle. The blade shows a "T" back design. The guard shows a muzzle loop on one end with a curved guard on the other. The guard is marked with a serial number and manufacturing marks. The scabbard shows metal construction and is marked "H" with a serial numbers. The piece shows good condition overall, with some wear due to age. The bayonet measures 25 1/4" long with the blade being 20 1/2" long.
