This is an original authentic graphite drawing of the Mountain Man by Gary Carter. Gary Carter (born 1939-) is one of the most renowned modern Western and American Indian artists of the 20th and 21st Century. Gary Carter is a Yellowstone, Montana artist and was inducted into the Cowboy Artist of American (CAA Member) in 1982. Gary Carter was also adopted into the Crow Tribe and Real Bird Family and made a member of the Big Lodge Clan, given the name of “Eagle Man”. This is a large full-size hand drawn graphite work of art of a Mountain Man. Unlike most Gary Carter graphite drawings that are smaller studies which are later made into full size paintings, this example is thought to be a stand alone work of art original and not a study, due to the immense detail and bare background. The work is signed in graphite in the lower right and is truly a rare fine example. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and acquired by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The visible artwork measures 20" x 16." The frame measures 27 3/4" x 23 3/4."
