Featured in this lot is an Original Signed Gary Zaboly "Captain George A. Custer, Brandy Station June 1863", Pen and Ink drawing framed, circa late century. It depicts the famous "Golden Cavalier" shortly before he was appointed a Brigadier General. He is shown in a plain officer's campaign dress and kepi, and smartly mounted. Prior to his overwhelming defeat and death at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, he fought for the Union during the American Civil War. He distinguished himself quickly through fearless, aggressive leadership from the front lines. By 1863, at just 23 years old, he was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers, commanding the Michigan Cavalry Brigade. He played a key role at the Battle of Gettysburg and was present for General Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox. Gary Zaboly (1949-) is a highly acclaimed American historical illustrator and author, widely considered by curators to be the unofficial official artist of the Texas Revolution. Known for his meticulous, museum-grade attention to detail, his work brings gritty realism to pivotal moments in early American and frontier history. His artwork captures the raw, human experiences of "ordinary people" pushed into extraordinary wilderness and military conflicts. His illustrations are packed with painstakingly researched material culture, capturing everything from exact seam lines on period clothing to the mechanics of single-shot muskets. Drawn with black ink on acid-free Strathmore drawing paper, the artist signature is the bottom right corner. This impressive pen and ink is in very nice condition. the double-matted wood frame is in good condition overall. Visible art is 7.25"W x 9.25"L, frame is 14.25"W x 17.25"L x .75"D. Total weight is 3lb.
