Featured in this lot is this bisque fired porcelain white sculpture titled "George Washington" by German sculptor named Gerhard Bochmann and was made for W. Geobel. Gerhard Bochmann (1925–2012) was a German painter and graphic artist known for his detailed and realistic style, particularly in portraiture and landscape painting. Trained at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, he developed a reputation for technical skill and a strong sense of composition that reflected both classical influences and postwar artistic movements in Germany. Bochmann was especially active in commissioned works, producing portraits of political figures, cultural leaders, and community members, as well as mural projects and public art that tied his work to civic identity. His involvement in artwork extended beyond personal expression, he saw art as a means of documenting people and their environments, leaving behind a body of work that captures the social and cultural atmosphere of 20th-century Germany. The sculpture features a depiction of then General George Washington leaning against a cannon battery with a soldier behind him lifting the flag of the Colonies. The sculpture shows great attention to detail and shows the characteristics of this "larger than life" character of American Independence from Great Britain. The sculpture is marked as follows: G. Bochmann. The plaque on the front of the wooden base reads as follows: "George Washington" - First President of the united States served for two terms -- April 30, 1789 to 1796. Sculpted by G. Bochmann for W. Goebel - No. 181 in Limited Edition of 400. The condition bisque fired porcelain white sculpture is well preserve with some wear to Washington's coat but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this sculpture is 16" x 10 3/4" x 13 3/8". The collective weight of the sculpture is 13lb.
