The lot features a Ghost Dance Revival polychrome painted hide shield cover with morning star design from the Northern Plains with a nice vintage age. The piece is tanned hide with a museum metal band that it is stretched and displayed over with Indian hide tie on the back. The front shows a morning star, rain or lightning lines, crosses and zig-zag border done in red, blue, green, white and yellow coloring. The front also shows a long sinew tied salvage red trade clothe drop with hide tied rolled tin jingle dangle cones in bands along the long piece. The shield shows several spots which previously held drops of feathers, medicine pounches or beadwork, which are now not present. The cover would have been displayed over a harder hide shield which has been lost to time. The hoop is metal and allows the shield cover to display nicely. There is some tearing to the clothe drop. small tear on the hide on the back and some color loss. Shield itself is 18-inches in diameter and overall the shield measures 48-inches long.
