Featured in this lot is a Great Northern Plains Buffalo Tooth and Trade Bead Necklace, circa mid to late 1900s. Being a primary source of food and materials for many Native Americans, the buffalo (or American Bison) hold a special meaning in Native American culture. They represent the sustaining of life in addition to the trait of humbleness. Because this valuable resource can be scarce, the buffalo symbol is a reminder to take only what one needs. This necklace features 12 light-brown and 8 dark-brown Buffalo teeth with antique copper finish hollow metal beads, opaque red pony beads, red coral beads, hairpipe beads. The necklace features a wonderfully and professionally crafted construction, sinew sewn with a copper hook and eye closure. This vintage necklace is a beautiful piece of Native American jewelry from the Great Northern Plains. The condition of this necklace is good with with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this necklace from end to end is 16.5".
