Offered in this lot is the Rare First Edition of, "Guide to the John Muir Trail and the High Sierra Region", 1934, by Walter Starr Jr. The definitive, and first comprehensive guide to hiking the High Sierra region. Walter Augustus Starr, Jr. (1903-1933), a San Francisco lawyer and life member of the Sierra Club, conceived the idea of a comprehensive guide to the High Sierra in 1929. He spent his vacations and many weekends in the Sierra Nevada compiling data for the book and is estimated to have hiked at least 2,000 miles of High Sierra trails and knapsack routes prior to his fatal climbing accident in the Minarets in 1933.
