Featured in this lot are these marked drop shank spurs wing jingle bobs, circa 1910-1920's; the spurs are attributed to Hamley and Co. and possibly made by Mike Morales while working at Hamley. The spurs show steel construction with a drop shank design, jingle bobs attached, and ten point star rowels with heel chains. The maker’s mark is on the inside of the heel band and is slightly worn. William Hamley was born in Cornwall, England and immigrated to the US, where he eventually settled and set up a shop in Ripon, Wisconsin. William Hamley’s sons, John James and Henry, opened the Hamley Bros. Saddlery, which eventually was renamed Hamley and Company and was located in Kendrick, Idaho before being relocated to Pendleton, Oregon in 1905. In 1910, Mike Morales came to work for the firm as a bit and spur maker. Hamley also sold bits and spurs of other makers through their catalog, but the only pieces marked were made for Hamley by Mike Morales. These bits and spurs are marked with the Hamley “squashed H” or sometimes both the Hamley mark and Mike Morales’ own. The condition of this pair of spurs is good, with oxidation and patina consistent with the age of the spurs. The measurements of this pair of spurs are 4 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 2".
