Featured in this lot is this beautifully hand tooled and hand painted live oak leather belt circa mid 1900s. A live oak leather belt typically refers to a belt made from leather tanned with tannins derived from the live oak tree, a species native to the southeastern United States. Live oak trees produce a tannin-rich bark, and historically, the bark was used in the tanning process to create high-quality, durable leather. This large belt shows hand tooled Southwest designs hand painted with colors of light blue, dark blue, white, red and light pink. It features gold colored ranger buckles featuring stamped and tooled designs. In the center of the belt is a leather pouch that can be moved around. On the inside of its snap pouch, it reads, "Live Oak". The piece shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years but no signs of major damage is noted. It measures 54 1/2" L x 4 1/8" W x 1" D and weighs 1 pound and 2 ounces.
