Offered in this lot is a First Edition of "Hands Up! Stories of the Six-Gun Fighters of the Old Wild West" by Fred E. Sutton and A. B. Macdonald, 1927, A. L. Burt Company publishers. Sutton was a gifted story-teller, and he narrated his memoirs in the first person to A. B. Macdonald, a journalist for the Kansas City Star who first published them as a series in the Saturday Evening Post. Fred Sutton (1860-1937), known as the "Crooked S Kid" from his early days as a cowboy on the Crooked S Ranch near Dodge City, and a former U.S. marshal, tells of true stories of the old west characters that he knew personally such as Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, Wild Bill Hickock, Bat Masterson, Bill Tilghman, Jesse James, the Dalton boys and the Jennings gang. He includes details of how he collected the various guns used by these old west characters for his collection. Later he moved to Oklahoma at a time when it was overrun by bandits who depended on their guns for their livelihood. Sutton became a deputy U.S. marshal under Tilghman. His wild west experiences with outlaws are described. The orange cloth bound illustrated hardcover is in good overall condition, scuffing and fading noted on covers and spine. Intact pages exhibit age tanning. Measures 5.5"W x 8.25"L x 1.5"D, weight is 1lb, 2oz.
