Offered in this lot is this Vintage Hamburg Amerikanishe Uhrenfabrik Black Forest Wood Mantel Chime Clock, circa 1895-1925. When Erhard Junghans, founder of the Junghans factory, died in 1876, his widow's son in law, Paul Landenburger, who had acted as business manager for Junghans, left to start his own factory Named Landenburger and Lang. In 1883 the name was changed to the "Hamburg Amerikanische Uhrenfabrik", HAC became a very well known German clock company. The company used many different trademarks but the best known is the "crossed arrows" symbol, ("Pfeilkreuz"), in use from 1891, at which time the company had aspirations toward the sale of finished clocks to the export market, particularly to Great Britain and North America. They were involved in the production of mantel, longcase, wall, ship, and specialized industrial clocks, and they were still supplying components such as decorative parts dials cases, parts, and hardware for the clock industry. The company was a major producer of clocks in Germany, with 1300 employees in 1910. They produced many types of clocks from alarm clocks to ‘Ticket clocks' to wall and mantel striking and chiming clocks. In 1926 the company went into a cooperative with Junghans and in 1930 they finally merged with Junghans. This mantel clock has keywound mechanical German movement, silent/chime setting. 2-keyholes, winding springs, four chime rods, floral appliques on case face, beveled glass, scrolled engraved brass face. Often referred to as "8-day clocks" though they need to be wound once a week. "Crossed Arrows" logo located on solid brass back movement plate. The clock is in good overall condition, exhibits age related gapping at wood seams, polychrome floral appliques are slightly faded, scuffing observed. Chime tunes appear to function as intended. Key included but unknown if in original working condition. Measures 16.25"H x 12.25"W x 6.5"D
