Featured in this lot is this Ho Wo Mercantile or Hi Wo Company Grocery ceiling gas light fixture out of Benson Arizona in the lat 19th century and displayed in the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The light fixture features a wonderfully and professionally crafted primarily brass with some steel construction that shows a bulb basin bas that holds the kerosene with two extended arms that show regulators to regulate the amount of fumes used to light the area. The Hi Wo Company Grocery, also known as Ho Wo Mercantile, is a historic commercial building located at 398 East 4th Street in Benson, Arizona. Established in 1896 by Hi Wo, a Chinese immigrant, the store served the local community for nearly a century, remaining in operation until 1989 under the stewardship of Hi Wo's descendants. The building is a two-story structure with adobe masonry walls on the first floor and redwood frame construction on the second, reflecting the architectural practices of the period. In recognition of its historical significance, the Hi Wo Company Grocery was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 6, 1998. The light fixture comes complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: Ceiling gas light fixture from Hi Wo Mercantile in Benson, AZ. The condition of this gas light ficture is well preserved with oxidation to potions of exposed flanges outside the gas nozzle placements and a ding to the basin used for the kerosene but otherwise is in well preserved condition of its age. The measurements of this gas light fixture is 28"H x 20 1/2" W x 7 1/2" D. The collective weight of this light fixture is 6lb 4oz. MER-171
