Included in this lot is a first edition copy of the "History of California", Volume I and II, by Theodore Hittell, published in 1885. These volumes were published in San Francisco by Pacific Press Publishing House and Occidental Publishing Co. This book was "Entered, according to Act of Congress, in the year 1885 by Theodore H. Hittell, in the office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington, D.C." Covered in these books are the Spanish and Mexican periods, along with the Bear Flag Revolt. These books both feature the original brown cloth and gilt spine titles. The books are in good condition, with some normal wear on the binding and some browning of the pages. The books measure 9 1/2" by 6 1/2".
