This is an outstanding Ho-o-te Horned Kachina Doll from the Hopi Pueblo Native American Indians, dating to circa 1950‘s. This example is carved of solid cottonwood with natural paints showing crescent feet and forward, slightly in-turned, rounded hands. The piece has a wonderful hand carved and painted design with plume feathers at the top of the head, red stroud wool wrapped horns with feather drops, feather drop headdress back, and green hide collar representing a beard with twine tied back. The piece has several repairs at the horns and the foot and a loose horn and arm, but the mineral pigment paints are still rich. Provenance: From a private museum collection in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France. Collected from the Hopi at Second Mesa, Arizona, circa 1975. The piece measures 9” H by 3” W including the plume feathers.
