Offered in this lot for your consideration is a primitive Wolf Kachina doll carved from wood and attributed to the Hopi people. The Wolf represents loyalty, strong family ties, good communication, education, understanding, and intelligence to the Native American people. Of all land animals, the Wolf has the strongest supernatural powers. This Kachina is carved from wood in a very old style. Given the placement of the "belly wormer hands", this Kachina appears to be from the late 19th century. The head was either carved separate or broken and reattached at a later time. These less ornate dolls were carved for the girls of the tribe, so that they could feel part of the ceremony dances the males took place in. The Kachina is 13 3/4" tall and 6 3/4" at its widest point on a round base that is 3" across. Other than the aforementioned head attachment/repair, this Kachina is in very good condition.
